What are your English Language requirements?

The minimum English language requirement for each programme can be found on the course descriptions within our coursefinder:

For international students, we typically accept the following English language tests:

  • IELTS Academic
  • TOEFL iBT
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic
  • C2 Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)
  • C1 Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)
  • Trinity ISE

These tests must be taken within two years of the proposed programme start date. All scores will be verified by the respective provider.

What if I do not have the required English Language requirements?

If you are an international student that does not meet the English requirement then you can study on the Queen Mary's Summer Pre-Sessional programme.

The preparatory courses run for 13 weeks, 9 weeks or 5 weeks. They are designed to develop your English language and academic study skills and prepare you for your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University.

Students who wish to be considered for the Pre-sessional English courses must have a UKVI-approved IELTS test. Alternative English language qualifications will not be accepted.
